Gaming for Good
Formed in early 2011, PWNjax was an organization dedicated to developing and hosting community gaming events benefitting Child’s Play Charity. Child’s Play has placed more than $10 million in toys, games and books in children’s hospitals around the world since its formation in 2003.
As Development Director for PWNjax, I helped foster relationships with local businesses, including vendors Best Buy and Gamestop – both of which provided the equipment necessary for our events – and local merchants that provided thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes for event winners.
I also helped market the events, focused on the University of North Florida’s student body, while also drawing supporters throughout the Jacksonville gaming community.
Finally, I created materials and procedures for event volunteers, helping to ensure that PWN events were successful in maximizing funds donated while providing value and fun to our guests.
Fun For All
After two full events and one smaller event in partnership with a local game store, PWNjax raised thousands of dollars for Child’s Play. I had the distinct pleasure of helping present the proceeds from the first PWN event to Child’s Play’s founders at the PAX East conference in Boston in Spring 2011, and to thereafter continue fostering PWNjax as a unique way for the local community to come together to support a great cause.
Below are a few of the postcards I designed for the events. The PWN! logo was designed by Chelsea Rose, a local artist and fellow event organizer. The postcard for our first event was one-sided, while the second event – a fun, Halloween-themed evening – was a double-sided postcard. Event signage, displayed in print and digitally at UNF as well as online, were created as variations on the designs.
